FIRE IN LAUNDRY ROOM EXTINGUISHED

OKLAHOMA CITY (Aug. 10, 2023) – An investigation is ongoing after a fire started in the laundry room in the basement of the detention center around 6 a.m. Thursday morning. The fire began in a laundry cart, but the fire suppressions system put the fire out shortly after it started. The fire damaged the cart, some clothes, and a metal clothing rack. Oklahoma City Fire responded immediately and called out an arson investigator. At this time, it appears to the clothes in the bin spontaneously combusted. Investigators will try to determine exactly what caused the fire. Laundry and Commissary services will be suspended for today. No detainees or staff were in the laundry area during the fire.
